Here at the checkin Zollhaus, we sometimes hear: “It’s no use for me to get vaccinated against HPV (human papillomavirus); I’ve already had my first sexual contacts”.
This is not so true, because:
- Even with first sexual contacts, transmission of HPV need not have occurred yet.
- The HPV vaccine (Gardasil-9®) protects against the 9 HPV subtypes that most frequently trigger genital warts and HPV-associated cancers in the genital area. There is potential for vaccination protection even after the first sex
- This is why health insurance companies pay for the HPV vaccination up to the 27th birthday.
- The HPV vaccination is excellently tolerated. The costs are covered in full (you pay CHF 0.00).
